Has this post been a long time coming or what?! As you may know, I've recently moved out of home and into my own apartment, and I've never been happier with my makeup setup than I am right now. It's all thanks to this beautiful antique dresser that my wonderful godmother bought me as a housewarming present - it's everything I've ever dreamed of and it fits all my products in it perfectly. On that note, don't mind the spotting on the mirror, it looks like it's dirty in some of the photos, but that's just how the mirror is now because of its age. The only thing I'm missing is a velvet throne for me to sit at, but I'm keeping an eye out and I have faith that The One will come and find me when the time is right.
I realise this is A LOT of makeup, but I can assure you I hardly buy anything these days, and when I do I've usually given it a lot of thought beforehand. I also regularly sort through my products and pick out ones I'm not really using or that I don't enjoy as much as others and I pass those on to my friends & family. I also like to keep it all sorted by category and then arranged in the order that I apply it just to make it easier for myself. If you'd specifically like to see a review or hear my thoughts on any products you see just let me know and I'll try and work them into a post. :)
On top of my dresser I have one set of 5 Muji drawers that's filled with most of my lip products. I used to have quite a lot more than this but I really trimmed down my stash (even if it doesn't look like it) because there were just so many I wasn't using, and I feel much happier with it now. A lot of people with big collections tend to split their products up by brand, but I find it so much easier to find what I want by sorting them by colour. I'll pretty much always decide what colour I want to wear and then pick a product from there, so it's far more practical for me. The top drawer is mostly nudes and tinted balms and glosses, followed by more pigmented pinks and corals as well as lip pencils. The third drawer is oranges and orange-reds, followed by red-reds and then dark reds.
I feel like it's pretty redundant to talk you through the middle of my dresser since you can clearly see I have my favourite perfumes out, along with my brushes in cleaned out candle jars. I did a post on my Top 5 Fragrances not long ago if you're interested in that. Over on the right I also have a photo of my boyfriend and I next to two little glass bottles. When I was in Egypt I bought some perfume oils and Egyptian blown glass bottles to put them in. I've got other scents I haven't opened yet, but one of these is vanilla and the other is a blend of essential oils. Between them is my Grandma's engagement ring that I wear all the time.
On the far right I've got a set of two thicker Muji drawers with my single shadows in them. I find them pretty difficult to store otherwise so the drawers work really well for me. I don't really buy many single shadows, but there are a few I really love, like the L'oreal Infallible, Australis Metallix and Urban Decay Moon Dust shadows. On top I have my light up mirror and a bunch of my high end lipsticks from Urban Decay, NARS, Chanel, Dior, YSL, Armani & MAC.
Back over to the left hand side, in the first drawer I have my primers and foundations plus a few other things. I've got a Top Primers post and I'm working on a top foundations post which I should have up soon. I tend to be pretty ruthless with these two sections and have gotten rid of a lot in the past that I found didn't work for me. Down the front I've got a little micellar water, a hand sanitiser, a bottle of the Nivea post-shave balm that a lot of people like using as a primer, and my Beauty Blender and Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.
In the second drawer I have my concealers, powders, setting sprays and an array of cotton buds. I've done Top 5 Concealers and Top 5 Powders posts in the past as well. I could probably get rid of a couple of my concealers but for the most part I really enjoy everything that's there and they're pretty much all in regular rotation. I mostly use loose powders for setting my concealer under my eyes and pressed powders for around my face, although I can't imagine how anyone could ever use up a loose powder that way alone unless they were baking with it every day because they just last forever. On the subject of loose powders, I bought the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder (mini) after I'd already posted my Top 5 Powders but if I could go back I'd put this one in in place of the Bobbi Brown because I find this powder has better oil control. I'm not that big on setting sprays but I do find that the Urban Decay one helps my makeup last that extra bit longer when I do use it. Don't ask me why I have 3 different types of cotton buds, but I've got regular ones, the Muji thin ones and some dual ended ones from Swisspers that have a point on one end and a flat paddle type thing on the other, and yes, the fun shaped ones are much better for fixing up eyeliner and mascara mistakes than regular ones.
In the middle drawer I have blushes, highlighters and brow stuff. I don't own any bronzers because I don't use them, but I definitely own enough blush to make up for it! I think the idea for sorting them was by shape, so mostly square in the first box and mostly round in the second, though it definitely looks like I decided on black & white in one and colour in the other. I've talked about my favourite blushes before and although this is still an obscene amount of blush I really do try to keep this pretty trim and I can't remember the last time I bought a new blush because something really has to catch my eye these days.
Unlike apparently the entire rest of the world, I'm not obsessed with highlighters. I think because my skin gets pretty glowy on its own I don't need much help in that department, so I tend to be pretty light-handed with it, and also I just don't feel the urge to own very many. I'm not that into the Paul & Joe one I own but I can't get rid of it because the case has cats on it. And I recently got a mini of the Josie Maran Argan Illuminiser but if I decide it's too dark for me I'll pass it on. I do really love the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors though, both in powder and liquid form. The liquid ones give the most natural, glossy look to the skin and I think the minis I have of Moonstone & Pearl will last me absolutely forever. I'm planning on doing a post on all my brow products soon, but I pretty much just use the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade every day with one of my brow gels, or the Benefit Gimme Brow if I'm in a rush.
This drawer has all my eye primers and cream shadows along with eyeliners and mascara. I've got eye primers in the first section, I think the only ones I've ever bought are the Milani Eyeshadow Primer and the Milani Shadow Eyez in Almond Cream and the rest are all samples that have come with palettes or were a gift with purchase. I barely touched any cream shadows in pots or crayons for a long time, but recently I've been really getting back into them again because they're so quick when you don't have much time in the morning. The Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks are probably the best formula I own crayon-wise and they always release sets of minis around Christmas which are great value if you like all the colours.
I barely use eyeliner pencils but they always seem to come free with other products so I've got a few there. Every now and then I'll tightline with a black and use a nude on my waterline so I've got a couple of each shade along with one or two other colours. As for liquid liner, I've got my beloved NYC Liquid Liner, the Maybelline HyperSharp Liquid Liner which I think is great, and a recent addition which is the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. I've also got my Shu Uemura eyelash curlers and a couple of mascaras. I keep all my backups in a different drawer and tend to be pretty one-in-one-out with mascaras because they have the shortest lifespan of any product.
And finally, my eyeshadow drawer. Apart from the singles in my Muji drawers, this is everything. I recently did a Top 5 Palettes post but some honourable mentions include my Makeup Geek shadows in the MAC palette up the back, the Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Palette, the Lorac Pro Palette, the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 and the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette.
