Welcome to part two of my makeup declutter series (here's part one in case you missed it). Same deal as before, if you didn't know, my boyfriend and I are moving overseas in a couple of weeks and I need to downsize, big time. Anything I'm not bringing with me is being given to family and friends or will be going in the bin as things like concealer that I've had for a couple of years is a bit gross to pass on to someone else.
Concealers - Keeping
For whatever reason I really enjoy concealers and found them pretty hard to trim down. I regularly pass products on when they don't work out for me or when I don't find myself reaching for them, and there's only one concealer still in my stash (prior to this declutter) that I was thinking about getting rid of. Everything else I really like, but I know I can't take them all so these are the six that are coming with me. Starting with the Bobbi Brown Corrector in Porcelain Peach, this is the only corrector I own and I think it's a great product for neutralising dark circles. I don't use it every day but I do definitely use it and want to keep it. I've got about half of my tube of the Urban Decay Naked Skin in Fair Neutral left and I'm still enjoying it, and the YSL Touche Eclat in 2 is actually brand new - I mentioned in a recent empties that I got a two pack of them as a gift and I'd finished up the first one, so I'm keeping this. The Makeup Forever Full Cover in 1 and the MAC Pro-Longwear in NC15 are both excellent full coverage concealers that work well under the eyes and around the face and I enjoy both of them. I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned the Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in 10 Extra Light before but it's so underrated. It's super creamy with medium to full coverage, and it never looks heavy, dry or cakey on the skin. I think it's a great, foolproof product. In fact, when my mum asked for a concealer recommendation this is the one I bought her.
I really don't want to let go of these first three because I enjoy using them but I feel like bringing 9 concealers overseas is a bit ridiculous? I'm prepared to ditch my almost brand new Maybelline Fit Me in 15 Fair just because it's affordable and I'll be able to repurchase it over there easily. I also really like the MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW15 but I prefer the Pro-Longwear so I'm making myself pick between the two. And the DiorSkin Star Concealer in 001 Ivory is lovely but I've got the brand new YSL Touche Eclat so even though this has more coverage I'm making myself choose one.
I love the Maybelline Age Rewind in Fair but it's getting close to the end so I can just repurchase this over there, and my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla is just about empty too, so I'll finish this one up before I leave. The one concealer I could have gotten rid of even if I wasn't moving is the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Fair. I realise this is a super cult favourite in the online beauty world but I just don't think it's as life changing as everyone says. I find it slightly heavy and cakey for under the eyes, and although the colour of the Collection one is better for me, I'd pick the Maybelline Fit Me over it any day.
Highlighters - Keeping
Unlike the entire rest of the world, I'm not overly obsessed with highlighters because my skin gets glowy enough on its own. My collection isn't particularly big to start with but it's still worth a declutter. Although I find powder easier, the first two I'm keeping are mini Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquids from Becca in Moonstone and Pearl which are so stunning and leave such a beautiful, glossy look to the skin, I absolutely love them. I also love the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone and the Balm's Mary-Lou Manizer which was one of the first highlighters to get super hyped up. I also really like the MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl. If push came to shove I'm not as attached to this as I am to the others, but I don't want to declutter it for the sake of it because I do enjoy the product and use it all the time.
As much as I love the packaging, Paul & Joe's Secret D'or is waaay too glittery (like proper pieces of glitter) so I never use it. The Chanel one is actually a single shadow in Lotus which I can't find online. It was too subtle for me as an eyeshadow but made a really pretty natural highlight, it's just that the pan is so small and I feel like I can live without it. The Topshop Glow Highlighter in Polish really had it's moment online but I hate the packaging because it's too hard to get a brush in there and it's a pain when you have long fingernails. If this were in a wider, shallow pan it might be a different story, but here we are. And the mini Benefit Watt's Up is pretty but I just don't find myself reaching for it.
I'm getting rid of all my brow products except the Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Dark Brown and the L'Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper in Medium Dark. I'm keeping this gel simply because it's the newest one in my stash so it should last me the longest moving forward. I love the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Dark Brown but it's in a heavy glass jar, plus I've had it for a couple of years and I only want to bring one main product with me, so it's time to let it go and switch to the powder. I bought the Milani Brow Shaping Wax crayon a while ago but I never reach for it. If you have really full brows and just want something to help keep them in place throughout the day this could be a good option, though it's the same as using a clear brow gel. Basically it's just not a product I need. I'm almost out of the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel (mini) and although I really like it I'm not going to buy it because it's way too expensive for what it is, so I'll finish this one before leaving. The Maybelline Brow Drama in Dark Brown is good but I don't like the wand all that much, and my Benefit Gimme Brow has started to smell weird so it's time to go.
I'm leaving behind all my half-used eyeshadow primers and just bringing the mini of the Too Faced Shadow Insurance which is still unopened. I also might bring the NYX Eyeshadow Base in White because I haven't had it for long and it really helps boost the vibrancy of the shadows you put on top. The other four I'm not keeping. I really like the Milani Eyeshadow Primer but I'm over halfway through and eyeshadow primers last forever so I just don't need to bring more than one (or two). Same story with the Lorac Behind the Scenes, it came with my Lorac Pro Palette and it's a good primer, but I just don't need it, plus it's almost at the end. The Milani Shadow Eyes stick in Almond Cream is great when you want to even out the colour of your eyelids, which I like a primer to do, but it's a bit thicker than these other options so it can be a little bit harder to blend. I've also had it for ages so I'm not keeping it. As for the MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study, I don't particularly like this. It's somewhat shimmery and to me the texture feels slightly greasy rather than grippy, which is what I want it to be. I just don't really get the hype around these, so this is going Back 2 MAC.
